I use what I like to call the 'journal method' in my teaching. At the end of each lesson, according to the progress a student has made, I will write a number of assignments in a journal the student brings every week. This way, a student can move forward in some techniques while giving more focus to another area that still needs a little work. I also like to give bonus work to the students so that if they need a break, they have fresh material to work on. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my teenager days, as I began to play in my high school marching band to began to understand rudiments and reading. So coming from church everything I played I could break it down into rudiments. I started teaching private lessons to the kids at my church and other churches, and its been about 9 years or so. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the main key points I like to emphasize to younger students or even anyone really serious about learning. Read More

I am a motivated instructor and clinician who loves sharing musical experiences with my students. I started playing percussion at the age of four and began formal training by the age of seven. Throughout middle school and high school, I branched out musically and played low brass, guitar, and bass guitar to become a more well-rounded musician. In order to diversify my musical palette, I attended three universities between 2007-2012 for music education, composition, and performance. Read More

My first conversation with students is what they would like to learn. This doesnt have to be specifically about one instrument, but what they would like to become as a musician. What music do the students enjoy? What inspires them? Who are their musical influences? I have taught students to have developmental issues. I have taught gifted students. The biggest teaching method I have is to be flexible because no two students learn alike. Read More

I love it when I see a student smiling because of their hard work and dedication to their instrument. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at her or his own pace. I always encourage my students to start slow and to not get frustrated. From personal experience there are times when I have been learning a song and work on it day in and day out and it seems like there is no progression in sight. Read More

In middle school, I began performing and teaching music during the summers at Vacation Bible School for children ages 3-10. Throughout high school, as a member of a variety of bands, I performed at a wide array of venues around New England. During this time, I ventured into song writing and musical arrangement. I also spent some time giving private trombone, bass, and guitar lessons in high school. Along with teaching music, I have much experience working with students ages 2-18 as a summer camp sports director, youth director at a teen center, and a soccer coach and trainer. Read More
