I have played with high school bands at Carnegie Hall in New York and traveled to many places because of music. When I went off to graduate school my long time band mate went on the road as a professional musician. But I never stopped playing. I am extremely motivated to see my students enjoy their musical journey and have then develop their own passion for music. This usually requires setting goals that my students can reach with adequate practice, and constantly encouraging them throughout lessons. I believe that when students are given the right encouragement and acknowledgement they are more likely to succeed and have even more drive to learn. I played in Big Jazz bands, Small Jazz combos, and pit orchestras. I try to adapt my teaching style to however I see the student (or peer) is most effective in learning. Some people are more chart based, and like the bars written out in time so they can follow it in a more technical manner. Some have a hard time reading music, so they go off of feel.
