For begining guitar, bass, and key board students I generally work with several method books, and supply supplimentary materials as required. My methods vary from student to student. Everyone learns differently. Although i recommend learning how to read music, it is not required and there have been plenty of great drummers that do not read. A normal lesson consists of covering all aspects of learning an instrument. We will do things such as go over sight reading, playing along to tracks, studying what makes the drum set sound great, as well as listening to music and watching videos of drummers that inspire us. William continued his education by participating in lessons and sitting in on his father's combo sessions at OSU after school, which allowed him to develop his skills in jazz performance, comping, and trading 4s at a college level while still in high school. After graduation, William taught and ran the Beechcroft Drumline for three years before moving on to private teaching and gigging.
