I make sure all of my students have a solid foundation in technique and rythm with Progressive Step to Syncopation for the Modern Drummer by Ted Reed, Stick Contro by George Lawrence Stone, and then try to tailor the lessons to the students specific needs. I use standard method books based on the students goals along with personal exercises and techniques to help supplement the development of the focused area of study the student wishes to pursue. I encourage students to set their own goal, no matter the age. For youth, I desire the parents to be involved and provide encouragement in between lessons to ensure that students get the best result. I use positive reinforcement with my students as I have with my own children. I find that rewarding student with praise for accomplishing their goals helps them grow their confidence and self-esteem within their skill set. Read More

I apply the concepts I learn in my lectures to my private teaching. Though no longer a performance major, I'm still an active drummer on and off campus. Along with other musicians, I've worked with the Wirtz center for the performing arts to provide live pit orchestra for their musical productions for the past 3 years.
