Instruments: Drums
My teaching style prioritizes consistent, daily practice set in a musical context. Weekly lessons keep students active and involved in their drumming education, while assigned practice exercises promote gradual but steady improvement. Assigned practice exercises are designed to improve rudiment execution, hand and foot technique, and musical sensibility. As soon as the student feels comfortable with the instrument and is ready for the challenge, I will start to include play-along tracks or recorded songs in the practice rotation. Read More

I have been teaching percussion lessons since 2010, when I lived in Norfolk, Virginia. I began teaching young K-5 students the basics of percussion like proper technique, posture, note recognition and values, different styles of music, etc. I began by asking the parents what their child was interested in and based on the conversation, I catered the lessons to each individual student. When I moved to Florida in 2013, I was a graduate assistant at Florida State University, an adjunct professor at Wallace Community College (AL), and an instructor at Mason's School of Music (K-8). My lessons are safe spaces, judgment free zones, and, most of all, a time to have fun. As a teacher, I always encourage my students to explore the wide world of music and find the artists and styles that really motivate them. I mix technical skill development (I've accumulated a number of exercise books and worksheets over the years) with playing along to the music you love—because that's how I learned! Read More

I have been teaching as a side-gig and hobby for almost as long as I've been playing! It started with friends in the neighborhood approaching me for advice on how to get started playing guitar. In my years in the Baltimore/DC area, I took private students for extra income outside of my dayjob. Now in New Orleans after years of grinding as a performing musician, I've increased my roster of students as a rewarding and less stressful way to have a music centered career, primarily with guitar and drums. First the skill level of the student must be determined. Then the goals of what the student wishes to learn and wants to be capable of playing. Next we will set goals together and a time frame to achieve their goals. I will then develop a lesson plan based on what the student wants to achieve with exercises and practice techniques to build the muscle memory and strength required to play. Read More

Hello! I am a professional saxophone player in the great musical city of New Orleans. I recently moved from my home state of Massachusetts working as a director of an after school music program for youth, to pursue a career as a performer. Since relocating, I've performed hundreds of shows with many amazing bands, such as the Glen David Andrews Band, the Young Fellaz Brass Band, the Marigny St Brass Band, The Roamin' Jasmine, the Jimmy Maxwell Orchestra, and many more. I have a firm belief as a teacher that you can really enrich someones life through learning and challenge. As long as I can remember I have been surrounded by music. I have been playing drums for over 20 years since the age of nine, and have been playing guitar, keyboards, bass as well as singing for 10 years. I took my passion for music further by enrolling at Roosevelt University, Chicago College of Performing Arts and studied drum set under the direction of grammy award winning drummer Paul Wertico.
