I tailor my lesson plans to fit each student's individual learning style and situation, and I prioritize the student's desires in what they want to learn or need help with first over anything else. I believe that it is possible to learn in a way that is enjoyable for everyone involved, and I also always ensure that the student has enough time at the end of each session to practice the material on their own so that they leave the lesson more confident than before. I teach "Total Piano". Whether you are young or young at heart, a beginner or an advanced player, I will teach the entire instrument. You will learn to read and to play by ear. After all, isn't all music playing by ear? Every style of playing can be taught, whether it is the great classics or picking out the notes you hear off the TV. I teach how to listen and apply what you hear. Read More

I plan every lesson differently based on the student. I first like to see what the students interests are as well as what goals they have in mind that they would like to achieve. For drummers and percussionists, I like to work out of the books, Stick Control and the Alfred method books because I believe that they develop the best technique. For mallet players, I like to work out of the Charlie Parker Omnibook as well as Bach's Partitas and Sonatas book. Read More

My method in teaching depends on the instrument and the age. For beginners on band instruments and piano, I would start them with a method book of their choosing (though I would steer them in a good direction). For guitar and drumset, the use of method books is fine...but this would not be my first approach. It is important for students to be familiar and fluent in music notation. Read More

Chris finds immense purpose behind the drum kit and strives to spread positivity through his music. He has been drumming for over 10 years and has been gigging professionally for over 6 years, performing in a variety of contexts, including both large and small jazz ensembles, funk bands, hip hop groups, singer-songwriters, and pop bands. He cultivates a unique sound at the drums, combining elements of African, Caribbean, and South American rhythms with traditional Western grooves to create something entirely fresh and powerful. I am aware of the many people that have a great desire to learn about music. I view it as a language. Once you are able to read write and speak (singing or playing) you are fluent in music. I graduated from the Eastman School of music in 1977 and have played in several bands and sung in a multitude of singing groups during my life. I have taught music in all its forms for 40 years.
