My teaching system is directly related to the student's proficiency level in combination with their musical goals. When it comes to entry level learning, I believe that music is a language, and as such it is very important to develop the ear (call and response, ear Training methods), along with the theory (Technique) in the most organic and natural way. In the other side of the spectrum at the advanced level, I like to personalize the material as well as the musical literature based on the topics, concepts and interests that the student is trying to achieve. I began teaching private lessons 9 years ago, working with all ages and all levels. I am always aiming for the best balance between fun, discipline, technique and freedom. This includes my combination of fundamentals of technique, musical games, improvisation and focus training. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points! Giving students the right motivation and the correct point of view on the matter can not only change the level of musicianship, but can also change you as a human being. Read More

I focus on nurturing a students natural curiosity, while helping them find the tools to pursue their own musical interests. Many of my younger students prefer to use technology to connect with music (learning how songs are recorded, and the theory behind songwriting), but I also work with more serious students to prepare for college auditions, state/regional jazz band, etc. My methods differ depending on a student's own goals, but they generally all will start with a technical exercise, an exercise designed to get the student thinking critically, and an application of the concepts we're learning. I do my best at motivating students and tell them, however much time you put into the instrument will always translate into what they can get out of it. I am very laid back but also very realistic. Setting short term and long terms goals will be the key to improvement. I believe in playing with music when you are learning as well. Instead of a metronome, you can practice exercises/rudiments to a song you like. Read More

While at school, I had the priviledge to study under some of the world's greatest instructors. They helped me not only as a player but as a student. They were great at breaking down any problems i came across by teaching me new strategies and approaches towards learning a foreign peice. It's their approaches and strategies as well as my own that I intend to share with my students. I Highly recommend to all of my students in taking part of any additional activities beyond private lessons such as Bands, School Orchestra, Recitals, Competitions, Nyssma, ect. Read More

I began my teaching career almost 20 years ago at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. While I was there, I worked with students of all ages and levels of playing ability. From that experience, I was able to not only develop a teaching method, but also to adapt and adjust that teaching method to accommodate for each student's unique personality and learning style. During my time there, I wanted to incorporate musical concepts that I learned from playing tablas in my lessons with drum set students. Read More

I began teaching before I attended Berklee College of Music, and have continued ever since. I teach out of my studio and travel to students homes as well. The main points of my lessons are to help you learn what you want to learn and correct any bad habits you might have. Primarily I want us to have fun together and learn in the process. I love listening to music with my students and checking out what interests you, along with recommending some listening choices. Read More
