Once I get an idea for my student's level based on the trial lesson, I build a curriculum specifically for their needs. I have a personal library of music and exercises that I cater to needs of each individual. I do my best to always keep in mind the specific goals of my student whether they are studying to develop skills for school bands/orchestra, marching band, recitals, real world gigs and auditions, or just for fun! I teach from a feel and improvisation stand point. I do start with basic rhythm studies but I love to allow for my students to explore the kit and their own comfort levels. It creates what I feel to be a sense of intimacy between them and the instrument. I believe that feeling comfortable with your instructor and your instrument harbor a much more positive and motivational learning impact on the student. Read More

Music lessons should be fun and engaging. My goal is to spark my students inspiration and creativity. It is important that each student progresses at their own pace and I patiently track a students growth to ensure that they are getting the most out of their lessons. Deep listening and acknowledging accomplishments encourage students growth. I assign materials that will encourage the students' daily practice and foster and enjoyment of playing music. Read More

I am very flexible with the students I work with. Depending on how you learn best, I will adapt to your needs. I can teach through the use of books (such as the Suzuki Method, John Thompson, etc) but I am also an advocate for learning by ear, transcribing and chord charts. I am also a great transcriber and arranger. With that, I am able to adjust any song to any difficulty for the students I work with. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school, as I began teaching private lessons 5 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio. Like people have fitness plans to achieve their goals, I like to create a learning plan with the student. This ensures that the students know the direction they are going in and can make the most of every lesson. Fun and learning are connected in my lessons, when the student is able to play that cool fill because of that rudiment they just learnt a minute ago, they get a motivation boost. Read More

I've been teaching music in Los Angeles for 7 years! Upon arriving, I began studying guitar and everything else music at Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. It's here that I studied with a few jazz aficionados, perfected blues technique, studied chord theory and all inner workings of a song and it's structure, and more! Most importantly, I learned how to be a musician and artist. I began writing music, performing my songs and interacting with people all over the city. Read More

I primarily use original material when I teach, but occasionally Ill work from standard method books such as Stick Control, Master Studies, and Syncopation, or assign pages from more recent books like John Rileys The Art of Bop Drumming. Ill also pull out books specifically for sight reading such as Anthony Cirones Portraits in Rhythm. For beginning and intermediate students I focus on fundamental technique, basic sight reading skills, and drum set playing (independence/coordination of the limbs, relaxation and balance, time and groove, fills and solos, introduction of musical styles, etc.) For advanced students I get into more conceptual and creative aspects of playing the drums, but I also introduce the Spivack/Wilson technique which I learned during my studies with Murray Spivack and Richard Wilson in the 1980s [check out the 4-part series featured in Modern Drummer magazine in 2011-2012].
