For children who are just starting, I use Bastien Piano Basics Primer Level-Level 2. From here, students graduate to selections primarily from Bach, Chopin and Beethoven. For adults I use Alfred's beginner adult course. I also supplement these books with several books that I have in my personal library, such as Keith's Snell's Essential Piano Repertoire. I teach not only music performance which includes technique, memorization, practice techniques, body mechanics and health, and memorization but also theory, ear training, music history, performance and music business. All my students have opportunity to perform, learn how to audition for local musical theatre productions, how to record and how to prepare for careers in the arts (if they choose). I have been teaching for over 12 years now and love sharing the joy and passion of music with others. I started private piano lessons at the age of 6 and started writing songs and teaching myself music production when I was 13. As with methods, I do not have one lesson style.  My approach with a three year old is different than with a seventy year old. I am detailed in my critiques, but patient, positive, and creative with explanations.  My goal is for the students to learn to love and appreciate music and for them to use it not as a short term goal, but as something they can live with and enjoy for the rest of their lives.  I sets appropriate goals with recitals, festivals and examinations to both motivate and encourage students, ensuring that they have a positive experience.
