This helps ensure that the student can thrive musically and in life. Also I do a lot of "visualizing" while teaching my students. Often, if they are struggling, I'll tell them to say something like, "I can do it" aloud a few times. I also have them close their eyes and really listen to me playing so they can visualize what it's like to play the chord or song before they even start to actually play. Read More

Theory I can teach music theory, harmony and reading in any level. These skills are tremendously helpful and necessary if the student is serious about music, but totally optional for the hobby musician. Audition prep I know a lot about most auditions in the country and what the academic world of music looks for. I can help you prepare for your college/ conservatory audition working on necessary skills and repertoire. Read More

My teaching experience goes back to middle school. I didn't get paid for it but I would teach the drummers their part the ensembles and performances in the orchestra and jazz band. That way the teacher could focus on instructing the other students the different instruments. I started booking regular paid gigs after college. I would perform shows and people would ask for lessons after the gig, networking is a big part of the professional side of playing music I encourage listening to all styles of music. Read More

For beginning students, I start with the Drummers Complete Vocabulary, which establishes good technique. Simultaneously, based on the students interests, I pick two styles that the student would like to begin working on. Once they've learnt a specific rudiment, I show them how to use that in everyday performance and get creative with it by applying that in beats, fills etc. If the student has a specific song or style that they want to learn, I help them break it down into simple parts so that they can understand and perfect it really easily. Legend has it that Mozart's father (his teacher) would not let young Amadeus practice the piano unless he was there to supervise. This assured that young Mozart would always get the guidance and training he needed to master his instrument as fast as possible. That is how I view my job. Obviously, I can't be with you every time you sit at the drums, but I will be your coach and guide to consistently help you learn to reach your goals on the drum set efficiently and effectively.
