I have been teaching for three years as a part time instructor out of the Music Stores network in Reston, Chantilly, and Lorton. My approach includes teaching from current artists, historically significant artists, and lessons built from drum books in a way that builds fundamentals through cognitive development and positive reinforcement. One of the most important aspects of my teaching is to make playing the drums a fun, and enjoyable experience for the student in a way that enables them to carry an enjoyable experience to whoever they may play with in the future. Steve has spent much of his professional career as a freelance musician in New Orleans, LA, Ithaca, NY, and Washington, DC. During this time Steve worked with many of the great local jazz and RB masters including George Porter, Walter Wolfman Washington, Mem Shannon, Anders Osborne, Ryan Burage, and The Louisiana Philharmonic. I graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Performance, earning the music department's Outstanding Achievement in Music Award in 1991. From 1994-1997 I taught applied and ensemble percussion at Shepherd University and, since then, have developed a successful private teaching practice in the Baltimore/Washington area. Many of my students have achieved success at the county, state and professional levels.
