As far as books go, I prefer the Hal Leonard method, especially for beginner musicians. I combine visual, audio and kinesthetic learning methods to tailor to anyone's needs. My approach to teaching starts with the rudiments. Every Student of mine has to have a good grasp on what stickings are avalible to them. Following the studies of rudiments, i will teach them about note values and reading music notation. Teaching an individual how to play drums is a very rewarding process for both the teacher and the student, and I find it ineffective to demand anything with unrealistic expectations. I introduce the student to simple and relevant information in a step by step way to ensure a comfortable learning environment that gives the student their own motivation to progress and get better. Based on the student’s instrument of choice, I supplement these lessons with additional materials tailored to practice and performance.
