It was an absolute blast working with my peers, having the opporunity to test out each other's compositions and ideas. I have always loved teaching and so a vast amount of my teaching has been in the form of informal lessons to my friends because I beleive that anyone can learn to enjoy playing music at any level. In between my two performance degrees, I took classes at UMass Lowell in education and was blown away by how innovative and helpful the program proved to be. Read More

I am an accomplished musician and internationally renowned music educator. I have worked extensively as a performer, conductor, clinician and ensemble adjudicator at jazz festivals, and seminars in the United States, Europe and South America. The breadth of my teaching and performing background is rooted in the rigorous and varied training I received at the LaGuardia School of Performing Arts in New York City. My stylistic diversity enabled me to perform in a score of ensembles including concert band, symphony and chamber orchestra, brass ensemble, jazz choir and stage band. Read More

Through my time both as a student and educator there has always been an over arching philosophy to balance out priorities of progress and achievement with fun and sheer enjoyment. I can remember times where music for me, became not what it is intended to be because of the stress and anxiety that I would sometimes encounter in practice and performance settings. Now, I don't mean to say stress and added pressure is never a good thing. Read More

A class once or twice a week is beneficial I believe for keeping up the continuity of practice. We will work on first the guitar as an instrument, basic chords, chord structures, some basic scales, and over time making chord changes happen as the minds memory/muscle memory for remembering chords grows! This is crucial for making the basic song happen. I encourage my students to find a handful of songs they really enjoy and may want to learn, so that we can learn them piece by peice. Read More

Reading and understanding music notation is obviously essential. However, my priority with first students , is to make sure they are engaged and loving what they are doing within the first 10 minutes. I have sat in front of , and studied with some of the most gifted musicians in the world, so suggesting books and instruction material is easy. What’s important is making sure the student is fully engaged and running to the instrument, rather than feeling like it’s homework. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 20 years ago, and have been consistently teaching high school band and percussion for the last 15 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the instrument and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

My experience dates back 10+ years when I began to seriously learn to play the bass guitar. Since then I have studied music theory in high school and college, played in a range of Massachusetts based bands and orchestrated the pits for 4 on-stage theater productions at Framingham State University. I have been playing drums and guitar for 5 and 7 years, respectively. Read More
