I cater lessons to YOUR needs and goals. I am not invested in there being a "right" technique of any kind. Together we will create a custom approach so that you will love the experience of playing the music you love.  I will share fun and efficient ways to practice so that you get immediate results. If desired, I also guarantee you will be playing a blues and improvising within a maximum of 6 weeks as long as you practice at least 10 minutes, three times a week.  You will have the option of playing along with recordings minus your part so that you can experience the joy of ensemble playing early on in the safety of your own home. I love creating small ensemble groups of students at similar levels and arranging concerts at regular intervals. For beginners, I have a multitude of etudes, simple songs, and exercises to encourage sight-reading, finger comfortability, and basic cognitive understanding of music fundamentals such as scales. For guitar, I usually begin with fun simple songs such as "What do we do with the Drunken Sailor" and a simple blues. For woodwind instruments, I'll typically begin with songs such as Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, or some holiday songs during the holiday season. Read More

In addition to seeing music through each individual student's eyes, I foster a sense of community by encouraging communication, coordinating chamber music and performing recitals, and providing other means of continued learning. I make myself available via email and phone, always doing everything I can to continue the students' engagement outside of their lesson. I push each student as far as they are both willing and able to be pushed without crossing the line over either of those limits. Read More

No matter the age level or experience of the student, I will first gauge the student's ability and current level. Then I will choose from appropriate method books depending on the student's skill level. If a student has a specific path that they want to take or have their own books they want to learn from, I will cater the lessons to that. I have had many students on flute, clarinet and saxophone over the last ten years and even extending back into high school where I often tutored younger students. My methods first focus on self discipline through inspiration and time efficient practice routines. I have found through empirical evidence that a student can learn more in 20 minutes with focused and disciplined practice than they might in 3 hours of unfocused practice. I have had students who fall upon a wide spectrum of musical aspirations, from aspiring professionals to students who simply wish to demystify their band music, and I can form each lesson plan to their specific needs.
