Developing a passion for music and having the confidence to perform is why I love my job. I love seeing my students achieve goals. I believe setting goals and accomplishing them are important, so I support my students until the end. Being able to perform and having the ability to capture an audience, first starts with the performer. I believe gaining confidence through an instrument is possible. I encourage students to tell me their goals and dreams so I can do my best to allow them to come true. Read More

I have picked up and loved the flute for 13 years, and I wish to share this passion and creativity with students. I have had the opportunity to study under Emily McKay and Marco Granados, as well as perform in masterclasses with Trevor Wye, William Bennett, and Lorna Mcghee. As a recent Denver citizen, I wish to grow my roots as a teacher who fosters flute playing as a fun and outside-the-box activity. Read More

Having studied music extensively, I have developed an encouraging and growth-oriented approach to teaching. I like to provide music that challenges, delights, and motivates students to practice simply because they enjoy it. Of course, some students respond well when told something needs work and they need to spend more time honing a particular exercise or piece, but with every student it is important that they are recognized for good work. I like to understand a student on a musical level, thus letting their ability level and their drive push me in the direction most useful for the student's success. I encourage them by setting specified goals and show them how to attain them while guiding them through any necessary musical concepts they may meet along the way. I gain from my students' accomplishments a sense of pride, which makes me work just as hard for my students as they do for me. Read More

During my time at FSU, I worked with students in a variety of settings including a semester long student teaching internship with the Vero Beach High School band program. Read More

I started teaching two years ago at a private lesson studio in Denver called My Music Skool. My main focus was on piano and saxophone. Now I teach privately as a freelance musician. Two points I emphasize when teaching are practicing at least once a day no matter how long you play and learning what inspires you. There will always be some sort of theory I sneak in whether it's learning scales or building technical skills that will build confidence and ability, but if these devices aren't being applied to the type of music that inspires the student, then learning music becomes discouraging instead of fun. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons 15 years ago, and have been teaching students at my home and at students' houses. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I emphasize for my students. To truly become an accomplished musician, a student must be motivated to practice daily. I've found that teaching both classical and modern music motivates students to practice and continue to learn. Read More
