For all students I try to incorporate all elements of music by including appropriate amounts music history and theory into my lessons. For beginners, I tend to utilize Trevor Wye exercises, and slowly incorporate small musical pieces. Although tedious, I believe that scales and etudes make students technically and musically proficient. I therefore include them in my lessons, but ensure the students are gaining the benefit of these exercises. Since then, I have moved to Nashville, earned my Master's Degree from Belmont University in 2014, and have began my professional career as a freelance saxophonist. As they love what they are doing and how well they are succeeding, student often develop a wanting to put more and more work into their playing. I show encouragement for their accomplhments, yet also discipline to make sure they are on the correct path. I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less. For beginners, I start off with the basics. For example, naming each string on the guitar, curvature of the fingers, embouchure on the headjoint of a flute, and achieving a crow on an oboe reed.
