To help students achieve a rich, full tone, I like to give voice exercises and body exercises to expand their vocal cords and posture to get that beautiful, rich sound. I also like to ask my students to record their own playing to compare how different the recording sounds from what they usually hear, which helps give them a better sense of what they need to improve and trains their ears to adjust to their tone, pitches, and even tempo. I use different method books, depending on the student's age and past experience (if any). I particularly like the Alfred methods, but I supplement this with solo books and duets. For duets, I like the Alfred Learn to Play Duets, but also the Selected Duets (Rubank) series. I think it's very important for any student to play solos with piano and once students know a few notes, there are really nice pieces they can do. Read More
