I like to figure out what their reason is and progress accordingly. However, all musicians must have a basic grasp of technique and fundamental skills in order to express music the way they would like to. Beginning with an overall assessment of technique is essential, and working to maintain and expand that level of proficiency is important for instrumentalists. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. Each student must progress at his or her own pace; therefore realistic goals must be set at each lesson.
