Most beginners benefit from a method book, such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, which is a good starting place for most students. As students progress on their instrument, I choose the method books and solos that will best help them develop their talents as well as keep them engaged in the material. I have a somewhat fast paced, exciting music teaching style but am cognizent and respectful of the need for each student to progress at his or her individual pace. I like to engage the student fully in the process of learning, and as there are several different learning modalities, I feel it important to establish which style the student most identifies with. I love being able to send students on their way for the day knowing that they put their best foot forward. Even if they did not come to a lesson prepared, being able to see growth in the small amount of time I'm with them is enough for me. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days when I began teaching private lessons part time, and started a program for underprivileged students to have group lessons and perform throughout the community. I also have five years of experience teaching middle school and high school music in public schools. I love to see my students enter various competitions and perform in recitals.
