I began teaching when I was in High School, where I had several students of varying ages and skill levels.  I taught private lessons in their homes.  I encourage regular practice, and weekly lessons.  A mixture of method books and my own personal written lessons I have found to be the most effective teaching strategy. Books with a variety of popular solos I also utilize.  Method books are necessary for skill, but can get boring and repetitive for younger students.  Keeping things fresh and interesting is my main focus in teaching. I have developed my own system and materials for introducing the fingerings and reading music in a methodical way. I write my own simple exercises and songs. I use the Wagner book and a duet book, and appropriate solos depending on the interests of the student. I customize the lessons and go where the student's needs and interests are. Popular songs can be good as solos, and some studnets really enjoy playing Handel, Telemann, and Bach. Read More

For the remainder of high school, he studied in the Honors Program at the Mannes College of Music Prepartory Division with Sue Ann Kahn. Daryl graduated high school serving one year as Piccolo Player in the Senior Symphonic Orchestra, and one year as Principal Flute Player of the Senior Symphoniy Orchestra, Senior Symphonic Band, and the Pit Orchestras of Ragtime and City of Angels.
