For all of my new students, I gauge where they are at in their musical development and start to create a plan for them. I assess their strengths first and then go right into areas that need work. I work a lot on fundamentals such as breathing, sound development, and comfortable hand position so that students can use their bodies most efficiently in their music making. Although working through the books and going onto the next level is the goal, I find it imperative ensure that the techniques are being fully utilized along the way. I have been a finalist in several competitions, including the Seattle Philharmonic's Don Bushell Concerto Competition, the University of Washington Concerto Competition, the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival Concerto Competition, and the Seattle Flute Society's Soloist Horsfall Competition. In addition, I was named the prizewinner of the 2015 Coeur d'Alene Young Artist Competition. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Flute Performance (with departmental honors) and a minor in Japanese. Read More
