I have taught private flute intermittently for the past 25 years, usually traveling to students homes. I teach classical music as a foundation, while incorporating other types of music to keep it fun and interesting for the student. Many of my students have performed in recitals which I have organized, as well as in other performances that demand hard work and personal accomplishment. I have students from many different backgrounds and ages, and watching students grow from their musical endeavors and fall in love with music is one of the greatest achievements any teacher can have. I am currently a senior studying Music Education at Brigham Young University and am super excited about students and teaching music! I love volleyball, spikeball, spending time outside, frozen yogurt, paint by numbers, reading, baking, and being with family! One of my favorite feelings is the satisfaction between mentor and mentee, when theyre able to accomplish something they werent before.I love to do that through private lessons. I participated in marching and concert band all throughout high school and college, including BYUs Wind Symphony, a touring group with which I have travelled to Spain and Portugal and will perform with at WASBE in Korea this summer. Now that I am building my own woodwind studio, I want to emphasize learning the basics, as I lacked that in my own early schooling. Music fundamentals are the building blocks of successful musicians. My curriculum will include the Breeze Easy method books, Rubank beginner and intermediate books as well as Suzuki flute and piano books and other etude and repertoire pieces to help the students build a solid library of their own. I encourage my students to practice smart instead of long. This is especially important for young students. I teach my students to self-evaluate their own playing. When difficult areas are recognized, this is where the practicing focus should be. Above all, music should be enjoyable! Hard work disguised as FUN is my goal. I am great at giving positive feedback. I enjoy celebrating success. I feel that it is important to let the student set the pace and then encourage from there. Read More
