Singing and/or composing their own pieces I highly encourage because I believe it is something even a beginner can do if they have the desire and it sets loose each persons creativity and lets their personalities shine. When I was in grade school I recall a lot of the teachers being quite dull and boring and thus it was nearly impossible to find interest in what they were talking about. Read More

I have been playing cello for 20 or so years. I have studied at CSUN classical cello performance. I have been teaching for about 10 years. I have brought many students from complete beginners all the way up to concierto level playing. I have played for and with many very successful bands over the years including Chelsea Wolfe, No Age, Saint Motel, Tes Elations. I have also played in many orchestras and chamber groups. I also do session recording and I can teach you any genre of music you'd like to learn. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I am teacher who works to inspire students to really go for it, and use the guitar and bass to express themselves! I approach the music from the students desires and favorite music so that always sustains your passion and interest, and makes and keeps learning and practicing fun. I like all kinds of rock, blues, and jazz, and love to teach songs, and song writing as well. My emphasis is on self expression and performance, and then reading, theory and technique. Read More

I have taught guitar for 25 plus years in a variety of settings, in students homes, private schools, studios, and colleges, I have also been teaching music production on Logic Pro X as well as Songwriting for the past 5 years. I like to make lessons fun and I focus on practicing technique and building chord vocabulary through learning songs with less focus on boring exercises and theory; unless of course the student is interested in that. Being a passionate student myself, I know what I look for in a teacher and try to live up to that standard. No two people are the same and tailoring lessons to fit each person is the key to my teaching style. I strive to help each student achieve their goals and develop higher goals in the process. This personal approach makes learning not only educational but, more importantly, a lot of fun! Read More

I tailor my lessons to fit each individual student's needs and goals, and am comfortable teaching both traditional classical music as well as various other modern genres. I typically use the Alfred books for children who are just starting out, gradually introducing solo repertoire as they progress. For adults, I use materials relating to whatever stylistic or technical goals they may have. Read More

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
I have a schedule that I divide into specific sections.
I always warm up, like if it was a sport., you're using your muscles and tendons so I want to take care of that first. Then start pace by pace already on my instrument and from there it could be scales, arpeggios, chord tones, triads, chords, multiple chord voicings, substitutions, extensions, reading, ear trainning, theory, new songs, solos, licks etc. All lasting less than 30 minutes to focus totally on the topic and get the best out of each one of them,
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
Guitar Performance Degree.
I chose that degree to have an in-depth knowledge of things I always watched online that my idols played or what I heard on the music I played on my Ipod.
Being an alumni from Musicians Institute has been something I am proud of. I learned a lot from so many teachers, not only guitarists but every musician there. They have different approaches and experiences either performing, learning and teaching. It gave me a wide spectrum of the industry and what being a musician is like.
I love what I do and can't see myself doing anything else. If I can help anybody with what I love, that's really rewarding.
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I believe to know what you like you have to try everything, even what you don't like. I have certain styles more ingrained in me than others but I like al kinds of music.
My love for music started with the guitar virtuosos from the 80's. The music I love the most is metal, rock and of course blues!
I took jazz and funk lessons in college, it could get as complicated as you want it to be.
I've been all over the place, from listening to classical music to punk rock, to 80's rock and pop. No matter what it is if I like it I like it.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I always wanted to play guitar and still can't picture myself doing anything else. My love and passion for music kept growing since I was a kid and to have a better grasp and understanding for music as a full band I started lessons for drums, bass, piano and even singing.
I have more than a basic knowledge fro them and can play couple songs. Taking those private lessons helped me to compose my own songs and start different projects.
I know the approach of every instrument is different but thinking different, takes music to another level.
