I have a love for all kinds of music and look forward to teaching people that have the same. From country to rock, or whatever makes students want to pick up the instrument is what I'll use to teach them what they need and want to learn on the guitar. I always push students so they can reach their goals on the instrument. I will always give homework that will push them, but I make sure that I set a pace that they can handle. Read More

I like to first assess where the student is at experience wise as well as what their personal goals are. If they are just starting to play guitar I can show them chords and songs that are not too difficult and help them develop their style from the get go. If they are a little more advanced and have a grasp already on certain techniques and scales then I can help guide their interests more and help them realize their goals whether it be songwriting based or performance based I feel my method can help anyone interested. My style is one that seamlessly adapts to all ages, learning styles, and backgrounds, resulting in a high student retention rate over the years. I provide an exciting and positive environment for students to not only learn fundamentals and techniques, but also to find and express their unique musical voice. As lessons progress at the student's pace, it's important to keep discovering what they love about music and what inspires them to learn (song, artist, style, musician friend). Read More

Instruments: Guitar

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
I have a schedule that I divide into specific sections. I always warm up, like if it was a sport., you're using your muscles and tendons so I want to take care of that first. Then start pace by pace already on my instrument and from there it could be scales, arpeggios, chord tones, triads, chords, multiple chord voicings, substitutions, extensions, reading, ear trainning, theory, new songs, solos, licks etc. All lasting less than 30 minutes to focus totally on the topic and get the best out of each one of them,

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
Guitar Performance Degree. I chose that degree to have an in-depth knowledge of things I always watched online that my idols played or what I heard on the music I played on my Ipod. Being an alumni from Musicians Institute has been something I am proud of. I learned a lot from so many teachers, not only guitarists but every musician there. They have different approaches and experiences either performing, learning and teaching. It gave me a wide spectrum of the industry and what being a musician is like. I love what I do and can't see myself doing anything else. If I can help anybody with what I love, that's really rewarding.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I believe to know what you like you have to try everything, even what you don't like. I have certain styles more ingrained in me than others but I like al kinds of music. My love for music started with the guitar virtuosos from the 80's. The music I love the most is metal, rock and of course blues! I took jazz and funk lessons in college, it could get as complicated as you want it to be. I've been all over the place, from listening to classical music to punk rock, to 80's rock and pop. No matter what it is if I like it I like it.

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I always wanted to play guitar and still can't picture myself doing anything else. My love and passion for music kept growing since I was a kid and to have a better grasp and understanding for music as a full band I started lessons for drums, bass, piano and even singing. I have more than a basic knowledge fro them and can play couple songs. Taking those private lessons helped me to compose my own songs and start different projects. I know the approach of every instrument is different but thinking different, takes music to another level.

...so limits a musician because they can’t see the bigger picture of why music works the way it does. Music theory is really a language more than a theory, and with it musicians of every age, skill level and background are able to communicate.   Knowing your theory will also help you collaborate with other musicians. If you write music with another songwriter, knowing what playing in the key of Eb means or how to improvise using the G melodic minor scale will help you to be able to work with other musicians. Essentially, music theory is a music explainer, and... Read More

The Bass Trumpet- A Brief Overview

...The Bass Trumpet Where it came from and where it is now The composer who wrote a 16-hour opera cycle and dreamed up the black sheep of the tuba family (the Wagner Tuba) has contributed more to the low brass world than you think.   Wagner also helped propagate the development of the Bass Trumpet, for better or for worse.   Maybe you already knew this and maybe you didn’t—either way, few instruments share a background as murky as the Bass Trumpet, and even fewer suffer as much confusion in the modern era as to how and where it should ... That way, if the child accidentally drops the instrument (and it happens frequently), there is no damage to the violin, and there is no trauma for the child. When the child isn’t worried about what will happen to the instrument, he can focus on making sure his posture is good. And that is the goal. Posture and Progress In Suzuki violin, the focus begins with good posture. Once posture is good, the child is set up for a relaxed playing stance – there should ... Read More
