I am proficient with electric, acoustic as well as classical guitars. I have studied fingerstyle and enjoy experimenting with different methods of producing sounds on them. I enjoy using Ableton Live as a performance and writing tool. I also dabble in analog synthesis and enjoy playing keys, bass, drums and singing. I take an easy approach to learning with the belief that it should be rewarding to play an instrument and not frustrating. Read More

With beginners (children and adults alike) I like to start with the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures method books. I tailor each student's learning experience, creating an individual path to success. I stress the fundamentals of music (learning to read music, proper physical technique, etc.) in an engaging and fun manner. Read More

I began playing piano at 3 years old. I started playing trumpet at 9 years old joining various community orchestras, drum and bugle corps, grammer/highschool bands. When I was 14 or so I started playing string instruments including the guitar and bass guitar, moved to Boston in my early twenties and studied at Berkeley College of Music . In 1990 I relocated to Europe where I performed and taught in various cities including Paris,Berlin and Amsterdam..By the turn of the century I was back in New York City living on the lower East side where I heard lots of afro-cuban music as well as more experimental forms.. First I try to set goals and learn more about the student (schedules, passions, goals, etc.). Then I focus on the basics. The first lesson almost never results in the ability to play anything because it's so important to avoid practicing with improper technique. First the student must learn hand position, how to support the guitar, how to hold the pick and more before a note can be played. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals I move on to a simple song in the category of music that I know they'd like to focus on. Read More

When beginning teaching I typically assess the learners general attention span, natural strengths, and what is motivating for them. I complete a beginner piano assessment to find out how the learner is with pattern recognition, any previous knowledge they may have, and what type of instruction they respond best to. When I understand the learners least restrictive environment I will choose the type of notation we start with. This can be traditional sheet music, pop chords, or adapted notation that may consist of numbers, letters, and/or colors. Read More

In my case, credibility is pretty automatically gained by making sure my students have been to my website and have checked out my professional history. It is also important that an atmosphere of trust is established, wherein the student will enable me the ability to do the job of teaching , understanding that they will get where they want to go faster and more easily by trusting that. To that, I am very sincere about my motives with regard to teaching music. Read More

I am a dedicated and passionate instructor and have spent over fifteen years refining my teaching style in order to deliver a comprehensive learning experience. In 2008, I graduated from New School University in New York City with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in jazz performance with the double bass as my primary instrument. I spent ten years in New York, playing in the NYC jazz, hip hop, RB and indie rock scenes and pursued classical studies with Mark Helias. Read More
