I've been playing trombone professional for almost 20 years, my most recent gigs were playing for Princess Cruises full time, and been teaching for 20 years. My passion for playing isn't what it used to be, so I'm focusing my musical efforts on teaching. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 40 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 20 years. Each lesson plan I create varies from student to student. During the first lesson I have with a new student, I asses what they know, and what they would like to learn. I then teach the necessary building blocks in order to reach certain goals that the student and I set in a timely manner.  Drawing upon my education and experiences as both performer and teacher, I strive to relate my musical background to my students' learning experiences and progress. As each student comes with his or her individual musical wants and interests, student lessons are designed to meet these needs of a particular student. I have young students of ages 5 to 14 as well as students of upper ages. I have found that the witnessing a student's development of a passion for music is a very rewarding experience. For each student to freely expressive their self through their music, it is important that they are allowed to progress at their own pace. I constantly evaluate where a student is at in their growth to ensure that material is challenging, but not frustrating. For beginning students I usually start with basic chord formation to get them into playing songs as soon as possible so they dont get bored with the basics. Then I move onto movable chords, scales, and music theory. Once they get to more advanced techniques I will give them simple exercises and the songs they choose to learn will put them into context. I use a variety of different methods and I tailor my curriculum to each individual student, offering you a personalized approach that is unique to your personality and learning style. I teach repertoire from the Suzuki Violin School and Barbara Barber's Solos for Young Violinists, I also like to incorporate other styles if the student is interested, such as fiddle and bluegrass, and even pop and Disney songs. I also use etude and scale books to help build and enhance certain techniques, such as Wolfhart Etudes, Barber Barber Scales for Young Violinist, Carl Flesch Scale System, etc., depending on the level and individual needs of the student.
