I greatly enjoy the lessons I teach and it is very important to my that my student teaching enjoys them too. I have taught students with experience levels ranging from beginner to advanced, and ages ranging from kids to adults. Typically, I begin with regimented learning. For guitar students, I use Hal Leonards Guitar Method 1. For voice students, I teach basic breathing exercises and fun, sustainable and memorable warm-ups. From there, I begin to prep them for their first solo performances. I offer studio-wide performance opportunities for new and experienced students to show off their skills! As they progress, I teach to their interests and needs. The lesson is where you learn how to build the house, but it is in the short, concentrated bursts of daily practice that the most growth occurs. My other focus with all students regardless of interest is rhythm. I think that in a lot of guitar education there is lack of investment in this topic. All musicians regardless of instrument are responsible for having a solid sense of time, especially if you ever care to play with other musicians. You can catch me performing as a regular in a variety of venues in the Nashville area and I also perform at private events and festivals throughout the country including Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Freshgrass Festival, Ogden Bluegrass Festival and Keyport Music Festival.
