Although firmly rooted in bluegrass and classic country, my music incorporates elements from all facets of American roots music drawing inspiration from jazz, blues, rockabilly and old-time. While there is no "One-size-fits-all" for all students, I start most students off with Essential Elements or Suzuki. As they progress I try to include pieces they like, pop songs, and different genres. The variety helps them stay engaged, learn a bit about different styles to broaden their knowledge, but also, have fun. As they get intermediate levels the paths diverge. I have used many different methods over the years and will supplement any method book to meet the individual needs of the student. My preferred method for young students is the FJH Harris Young Beginner's Guitar Method series. For older students I tend to use either Mel Bay or Hal Leonard methods to teach the fundamentals and then add onto them with whatever suits the student best.
