I have taught private lessons since 2011, where I started as a substitute instructor for Allegro School of Music (Nashville, TN). In 2013, I took on my own roster of private students, and have continued doing that ever since. I worked as an elementary music specialist for Metro Nashville Public Schools from 2013-2018. Teaching students, one-on-one, is my primary passion. The work that happens individually is indispensable to the musical success a student achieves. Read More

I began teaching lessons in college. Most of my early students were elementary-school aged and novice. There, I learned that regular practice must be encouraged to allow interest to begin to pique and passion begin to form. I firmly believe that hard work and discipline go much further than talent alone. I also firmly believe in fun! My most deeply seeded goal is for my students to develop a life-long love and practice of music! Read More

I usually start beginning students who are children with Mel Bay's Guitar Method Grade 1. As the student progresses, I introduce techniques that appeal to his or her preferences and strengths as they appear. For adults and teens, I find out what the student's musical goals are, such as accompanying themselves or lead playing, and tailor my instruction and materials to keep the lessons engaging and effective. I frequently create custom lesson plans, drills, and materials as well. Read More

For adults, I use a heavy emphasis on training the ear and understanding music in "the bigger picture". It's critical to not just see a bunch of notes or chords, but to be able to analyze why those notes/chords fall where they do and what relation they have to each other, and to the song as a whole. The next step is to use that knowledge and apply it to improvisation and composition. Read More

I have had a long time interest in education, helping students of all ages and skill level. In Nashville he previously taught at the Nashville School of Rock and currently works for Vanderbilt University. As a freelancing musician diversity of skills is an important trait. I have primarily worked as a guitarist in live and studio settings, which in themselves are two different worlds, but have expanded to include audio engineering and production, drawing heavily from my background in theory and composition to make the best of each project I works on.
