I love teaching the art of music. I get very excited when I see a student switch on to a new technique or idea that I've helped them realize. Most of my lessons have been for beginners who just wanted to get started to novice players who wanted to learn more. Guitar is a fun instrument with many applications and methods a player can use. I strive to bring those methods into my lessons so that my student gets the most out of their musical experience. Read More

Theres nothing more fulfilling than watching a student develop a genuine passion for playing the guitar! I believe its essential for each student to progress at their own pace, and I support this by setting achievable goals in each lesson. Celebrating these accomplishments not only builds confidence but also fuels their motivation to keep learning. By taking the time to understand what excites each studentwhether it's a particular genre like J-pop or a favorite songIm able to tailor my teaching approach to match their interests and goals. My teaching method is different depending on the abilities of each student. For beginning students, I use the Haskell W. Harr Drum Method Books 1 2, Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone, and The All-American Drummer 150 Rudimental Swing solos by Charley Wilcoxin. Once I feel like a student is strong enough on the snare drum, I will then work with them on developing limb independence on the drum set. All of the snare drum method books that I use with my students will eventually be adapted for drum set. Read More

My goal for every student especially the beginners is to make them play like a pro as soon as possible with emphasis on playing music by ear. My way of teaching is kind of unconventional because based on my experience, it took me a long time before I was able to play any song that I like since reading notes would require unwavering attention and huge effort depending on student’s skills to be able to play it perfectly. Rewind to the year 1996. I was in a local music store looking at the bulletin board looking for a band/bandmates. One index card caught my attention in particular: "Looking for someone to teach my 15 year old son guitar, can pay $20.00 an hour." I took the card and raced home and called her. Turns out she lived next door! Turns out he could play a little bit, so during my stint w/ him we took songs apart, put them back together then played them. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with some exercises for the left hand and right hand, easy arpegios, scales, melodies and chords. Once the student progresses to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For advanced students, I start with intermediate and advanced studies and pieces like 12 Studies of Fernando Sor, studies of Leo Brower, 12 studies of Villa Lobos or some famous spanish reprertoire for guitar such as Rodrigo, Turina, and Torroba.
