I believe any student regardless of age has to learn the three fundamentals pillars of music to truly learn an instrument. Those foundations are: Harmony, rhythm, and melody. The way in which I go about teaching them or reinforcing them depends on the age, musical interest, and skill. Usually kids benefit the most from learning their favorite melodies, how to read music, and how to play some chords to play their favorite songs. Read More

I'm a passionate and well-educated guitar instructor driven to help guide students through their musical journey. I'm currently working towards an Associates of Arts in music degree at Shoreline Community College and I have over a decade of experience playing guitar with a background in everything from jazz, blues, rock, to metal classical. I've had the opportunity to play on stage with artists of many different styles spanning from rapper Macklemore, to heavy metal drummer Jean-Paul Gaster of Clutch. Read More

In guitar lessons with me, I generally go through a guitar book (the book varies depending on the students experience and what we decide to use) but mainly focus on what the student wants to learn. My teaching experience has been drastically influenced by changes in my life both as a student and a performer. My early education was heavily influenced by traditional teaching methods in classical music. So when it came time to study my first introductory jazz course I was rocked to my core. I began not only to enjoy the music I played, but became more aware of the relationships between keys, chords, scales and notes. Read More

I am really interested in improvistion and so for those who want to be a lead guitar player, I have lots to share in those areas. Essentially, I try go by the student, and give lessons that will make someone push throught the challenging bits because it will be worth it for them. Read More

After graduating Whitman, I interned as a music teacher at the Spring Street International School in Friday Harbor, WA. I was mentored by a great teacher, Grisha Krivchenia and learned how to be a compassionate teacher. I helped teach composition, music theory, small groups, bass and guitar. During the second half of the year, Grisha took a sabbatical and I took over his duties. While in Friday Harbor, I also taught upright bass, electric bass and piano privately. Read More

Music and teaching have always been an essential part of my life: This was true as a teenager and student, when I worked in dance music bands, played in a classical guitar duo, performed in a Rock musical or taught classical guitar and electric bass. This was true when I taught literature, philosophy and mathematics as a middle and high school teacher. It's still true today, when I play Jazz guitar in various Seattle based Jazz bands, or write and produce songs and film tracks. Read More
