My teaching style is structured primarily on learning to play by ear with light theory instruction. For advanced and more serious students, I am a huge theory nerd and I really enjoy teaching a more technical approach as well. My philosophy is to improve a student's skills by nurturing each person's specific interest and goals. I do not find it effective to try and force my own taste in music on my students, although I do make suggestions based on skills a student is trying to acquire. Read More

I'm a musician to my core. I have love music since before I played it. I always like the bass guitar even though I couldn't play one (yet) and I really wanted to play bass once I heard Stanley Clarke play his bass guitar. I was blown away and I had to learn how to play bass guitar, which I did. I have traveled and performed around the world because of music. Read More

In addition to the recording and performing experience listed above, I've been a full-time private lessons instructor since 2010. I've taught at countless local schools, but found that the freedom of teaching completely independently (or, at most, through a referral program like Musika) can't be beat. The more of my *own* students I have, the more I can focus on each one, and the more time I have to plan out their progress. Read More

I would describe my lesson style as fun, friendly, focused and goal-oriented. If you're a beginner, my goal is to get you up and running on the guitar as soon as possible. if you've played a while, but have reached an impasse as to how to get to the next level, then I zero in on the reasons wh, fill in the gaps, and provide the materials and instruction you'll need to improve. As a teacher there's not a greater gift but to see students, specially younger students, progressing on their instruments and get better over time. To see younger students develop a passion for music is truly one of the greatest gifts you can give them. I believe the student receives the most value when their instruction is effective and rapid in helping them attain their goals. As a result, I formulate individual lesson plans tailored specifically to each student to help them reach their goals. Read More

I have played the guitar my entire life and never lost my love for it (even when I tried!). I have a bachelor’s degree in guitar from Wichita State University where I studied with jazz guitar legend Jerry Hahn (Rolling Stone magazine called him one of the top 3 jazz guitarists in the world). From there I traveled to Hollywood, CA where I attended G.I.T. at the Musicians Institute. Read More

There are several methods I use as a professor and they're all dependent on the student, their age and their goals. If they are younger, I like to employ elements of the Suzuki method because subjects like musical notation and theory might be too dense for the student. If the student has the aptitude/and or the discipline I can begin to apply a more systemic approach in terms of practice regiments like scales, practicing sight reading, their rhythmic feel, and even ear intonation and sight singing if the student is prepared for it.
