My first steps into teaching were as a camp counselor at a local music summer camp in Shaker Heights from 2008-2012. During that time I had a few students who were just beginning to play saxophone and clarinet. Those experiences coupled with phenomenal teachers throughout high school inspired me to pursue a bachelor's degree in Music Education at Ithaca College. During my collegiate years I continued honing my abilities and knowledge of all the instruments I play while also studying music theory, conducting, and composition along with researching pedagogical approaches. The student will be playing guitar right away and after a short time will be prepared to study theory, reading and any style they love. For more advanced students I teach blues, classical, acoustic styles and help with songwriting. I also can give crash courses in music reading to a student who already knows how to play but doesn't read music. My main objective is to make learning music fun and exciting. Read More

For young beginners, I usually start with simple note reading so that they can begin playing tunes right away. When children realize that they can play "Happy Birthday" or "Jingle Bells" after just a couple of lessons, their interest level increases. For older students, I tend to ask "What does playing the guitar look like to you? What do you imagine yourself doing when you ponder it?" This gives me the best idea of what direction we can plan for. Read More

What I more than anything is to help my students fall deeper in love with music and with the guitar. I want lessons to be an enjoyable and exciting experience for students who have the desire to learn. Of course I want my students to work hard and push themselves, but I have seen far too many people interested in learning an instrument get overwhelmed and give up before they are ever get off the ground, and this is not something I want to see with my own students. I began teaching as part of my college degree curriculum as a student and my love for teaching expanded into private lessons which continue into the present day. I really enjoy helping my students find and cultivate a real love for music. I encourage regular and devoted practice time in order for my students to enjoy the rewarding experience that music will bring their lives. I look for the individual goals that my students would like to accomplish and provide a path for them to be able to achieve those goals. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my early 20s where I began teaching private guitar lessons part time while completing my college degree. This is something I'm extremely passionate about as an adult and would love to continue this journey. My main experience is with guitar but can also teach bass guitar, song writing (in real time or through a DAW), and synthesizer work (through a DAW). My other experience stems from the recording workshop in which I attended in 2008 and my constant learning and own song writing that I've been doing throughout my life. Read More

My teaching style is straightforward and practical, always emphasizing the goals of each student specifically. The benefits of reading and understanding sheet music as it relates to your instrument far outweigh those of simple tablature used for guitar and banjo etc. However, in some cases it is practical to use non-traditional forms of instruction. A good teacher's goal is to help the student advance, even if it doesn't happen in a pre-conceptualized fashion. Read More
