For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I teach the same high standard skills for acoustic guitar that I teach for classical, but concentrate on masterpieces of the repertoire. Read More

After college I played professionally in Nashville. Later I spent 3 years traveling full-time through out the United States playing trumpet in several different music groups. Following that I moved back to Nashville and played as a free-lance musician, including as a recording studio musician and contractor. Afterwards, I became a staff musician for Liberty Broadcasting Network. A large Christian Television Network. After 5 years I started my own concert ministry. I traveled again, this time on mostly weekends for the next ten years. Read More

My philosophy lies in structure - such as teaching in appropriate amounts that are challenging, but not overwhelming. I will always ask students what they're interested in learning and work that into the lesson. But the main focus for beginners is to be comfortable with the fretboard and to have fun. I break lessons down into technique, theory, and whatever the student is particularly wanting to learn. I particularly like to pull from the Berklee Press or Musician's Institute books, as they are well received. Read More

My method and teaching style are one in the same. I am a teacher of music, not a task master. The student will only succeed if he/she sees some success. With a small success, they will continue to learn more. Once students learn something they have in their mind, they usually will stay with music, sometimes for the rest of their lives. I like teaching beginners something easy. Then, I play along with what they learned. Read More

For students who are young children, I typically start by addressing the importance of playing what you hear. So, I will teach them beginner classics, such as Twinkle Twinkle and Merry had a Littl eLamb, but I also teach them what thunder sounds like, or a siren, and etc. by drawing on everyday life obejects that create noise. I then move on to learn my student's interests to device a method of positive reinforcement if they complete their homework asssignments or answer questions correctly, usually in the past this has been candy. I have roughly two years of teaching experience (interspersed). In the past, I have not had the chance to grow my business due to the lack of time to devote to it. Recently, my schedule has become more flexible and I would love to add more students! I took six years of cello lessons under some of central Florida's most esteemed teachers. I have also had the same priviledge with the piano. Read More
