*IF YOU DON'T LIVE NEAR ME OR TRAVEL FREQUENTLY, I TEACH MANY STUDENTS ONLINE WITH SKYPE. IT'S A GREAT ALTERNATIVE AND WORKS WELL WITH PCs/MAC, TABLETS OR IPADS WITH A RELIABLE INTERNET CONNECTION.* I work with classical and acoustic players. For intermediate and advanced players, emphasis on sight reading/crossover styles is given. Group coaching for guitar with all combinations of instruments is available. I have a quiet rehearsal studio 3 miles west of Manhattan via NJ Transit #168 & 175. Read More

My experience as a music teacher started in High School, where I taught guitar in both English and Spanish to younger students from my school. Through that experience, I began to enjoy seeing students progress, develop a passion for the instrument, and in-part, become inspired by taking my lessons. In college, I had extensive experience as a tutor to peers and leading big groups of musicians. I am now exclusively a private music and instrument teacher in NYC after spending some years as a school music teacher. Read More

I'm a fun and unique instructor who is both classicaly trained and self taught. I studied music in school, but taught myself how to play guitar. I graduated from Baruch College and the Institute of Audio Research, and I have been a professional musician for over 10 years and an Audio Engineer for the past five. I truly learned how to be a musician by performing around New York City as a solo artist and with my band. Read More

The student begins by learning all seven shapes of the major scale covering the neck. From there, all other scales can be related back to the major shapes, making it easy to remember. I have my students improvise using the scales theyve memorized, which is a fun and helpful way to develop their ear and knowledge of the neck. I also teach students chords which allow them to comp or accompany someone else improvising. Read More

For my younger students I prefer using the Faber method books as well as "A Dozen A Day" for finger technique and dexterity. For intermediate and older students I introduce repertoire pieces in addition to leveled method books by Alfred. As my students progress I introduce classical pieces as well as suitable pop pieces based on their interest My older and adult students tend to be more goal oriented in their learning so lessons are developed based on their in individual needs. Although I grew up with Hal Leonard and the Real Book (and have access to those if need be), I personally do not prefer to use any specific book in my lessons. I like my students to have a blank manuscript notebook with them at every lesson where I can write down scale shapes, chords, notes, and homework each week; this makes it easier to structure things around what they want to learn, rather than what the book wants them to learn.
