I like to create a very warm, encouraging, relaxed and positive atmosphere for all my students. My teaching style is very much student-led in terms of goals and preferences. While I will create a general plan for each student to reach their particular goals, I never see my lesson plans as these rigid constructs that must be stuck to closely, and a guitar lesson may shift gears right in the middle of the lesson if I feel a student needs to spend a bit of extra time on one skill or concept before moving on, or if I find the student has picked up something much more quickly than expected, and we can move on to the next thing, or if the student asks a question that leads us to dive a little deeper into one particular topic that wasn't necessarily on the plan. There is nothing more rewarding to me than a seeing a student play that song they love so much for the very first time. Many times, they never thought they would EVER be able to play it, but yet in only a few lessons hdere they are, playing it! I have a skill for breaking down what seems like a complicated subject, and explaining in the most simplfied way that everyone can understand, no matter their backround. Read More

Very flexible, friendly, understanding and supportive teacher. I encourage my students to play duets with me and their friends (if applicable) and participate in recitals.I also try to teach them basic music theory unless they object, and help them to understand music, learn more about the history of music, and related matters. Some of my students take Royal Conservatory of Music tests regularly. I try to accommodate my students' interests and needs and always open to new things -say if they want to learn guitar accompaniment toa song they want to sing or solo/ accompaniment for a band. I started playing piano at 9 years old and took private lessons from Andy Calabrese for 3 years. My first emphasis is that you have to like what you're playing. I really try to focus on what music gets the student excited. For some of them, it comes quickly. Others it might take a while, and that is okay. Once I find the switch that engages the student's interest, that is my focus. I really emphasize getting students to read music and also understand the key components of music theory, so that they understand what it is they are playing. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
