My methods really depend on the level of the student. For beginners, I tend to stick to basics by teaching them chords, scales, and basic music theory; by using music that they would like to learn how to play. To aid with the learning of basic music theory, I might have the students learn some older music, just as a chance to analyze it, but nothing more than that unless of course they would like to. I am a guitarist and instructor who believes that everyone has the ability to play music and to be a part of such a joyful experience. I have been playing guitar for 15 years, and in 2015, I graduated from Metropolitan State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Guitar Performance. I have had the opportunity to participate in master classes with world class guitarists such as Roland Dyens, Ricardo Iznaola, and Martha Masters, which gave me profound insight and understanding of the guitar. For beginner students, I start with some fundamental basics but I always try to keep the information relatable to each individual student no matter what their skill level. I take a very individualized approach for each student and tailor the lessons just for them depending on what the student is interested in and their skill level. I like to teach by demonstrating information through songs that each student enjoys. The only books I tend to use are empty music books so I can write out specific music and instruction for each student. Read More

For beginners I like to start with just a few chords, something to get them going and playing and get excited. So many songs have two or three chords! By getting a few under the fingers we can start to learn songs and get dexterity and scales going a little later. Practice is something I can't stress enough. Get into the habit of practicing every day, even if its just for 20 minutes. Read More
