I'm very big on motivation. I tell my students from day one how great there doing and give them something to work towards. For example if I have a guitar student that really wants to be a lead guitarist I will play the solo of one of there favorite songs and teach them a small part of it or all of it if they are at an advanced level. I feel that it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals and assignments for my students at each lesson. This measurable progression of accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Of course finding out the students problem areas is also paramount to helping them progress at the fastest rate possible. This is my first experience teaching guitar, but I've had plenty of experience (12+ years) with tutors, band directors, and fellow musicians to have a feel for what "works." I believe in approaching students with an individualized approach, tailoring methods and exercises for different pupils. I've had experience teaching outside of music through camp counseling and University of Alabama outreach programs.
