My teaching methods are relatively universal. With younger students, I focus more on learning to have fun while learning about their instrument at the same time. The more fun they're having, the more likely they are to stick to it. For adults, I keep this same philosophy in tact, but incorporate more technique, theory, and performance practice into our sessions in order to facilitate the learning curve. Once I know what my student enjoys about music, I tailor my lessons around that. Read More

For beginners I start teaching basic chords and chord patterns to generate interest for the student. Then I use the Hal Leonard Guitar method to teach the fundamentals of reading music, music theory, etc. Then as the student grasps these simple tools I teach songs to reinforce how chord patterns work and finally move to the type of music the student is interested in. For intermediate and advanced students I find out the level of competance the student currently has and tailor a program based on the needs of each student. Read More

Combining this natural approach with a focus on how and why to develop good technique helps students get the results they're looking for. Read More

My teaching experience started when a good friend introduced me to a family that has two daughters that were interested in learning music. The 11 year old wanted to learn how to play the drum set and the 14 year old was interested in playing the guitar. I found the joy of teaching music to children on these instruments was a very challenging but rewarding experience that lasted for 3 years. I also have also instructed a number of adults to this date how to play the guitar and the drums. Read More
