For beginners I like to start with using John W. Schaum's Music book as well as helping them to learn basic music theory in order to be able to keep time and know how to read music. I help them to know their music scales so that they know them by heart when playing music. I also inspire my students to join recitals in school as well as encourage them to practice daily as well as play with others. Read More

The most important thing for me when it comes to teaching is knowing that my student is progressing but also enjoying their experience overall, another very important factor is overall retention of the information. Every person is different so there is really no cut and dry method of teaching, keeping this in mind the experience for everyone should be unique in a way. By setting routines together Im sure we could come to an agreement on how we could both help each other achieve our goals and succeed. Read More

My teaching style is relaxed but consistent. The goal for students is first to enjoy music, and then progress at their own pace. I am interested in knowing what student is looking to accomplish in music and introduce ways and exercises that will help him get where he wants to get. Music is free flowing and so should be methods of teaching. Practice is key to success in this discipline, and it takes commitment and patience to become one with your instrument. Read More

For my beginning students I prefer to use The Hal Leonard Complete Edition books. I find this course to be clearly written and easy to understand, and it offers a broad musical foundation to facillitate students as they move easily to higher levels of guitar studies. In addition, I incorporate rhythm reading, ear training and chord studies which I feel are essential to the development of a practical guitarist and musician. Read More

For students who are young children, I typically start by addressing the importance of playing what you hear. So, I will teach them beginner classics, such as Twinkle Twinkle and Merry had a Littl eLamb, but I also teach them what thunder sounds like, or a siren, and etc. by drawing on everyday life obejects that create noise. I then move on to learn my student's interests to device a method of positive reinforcement if they complete their homework asssignments or answer questions correctly, usually in the past this has been candy.
