I usually takes time after a few lesson to give them a chart to understand how to read notes, along with flashcards to study at home too. If the child is comfortable, when recitals occur they are able to participate. Once students have grasped the fundamentals, I will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for receital performances to encourage and motivate their learning.
