Some time in 2006 I was asked by the director to become his assistant and began taking on groups of my own. In 2007 I also joined ECMM as a sales associate and apprentice luthier in their shop, selling and working on guitars and other instruments. It was unfortunate that ECMM closed in 2009 after 33 years. Working at East Coast was a great experience for me and something I will always cherish. What I loved most about the ROA program was that as I transitioned from a student to a teacher, I adopted the same teaching style as my mentor: let the students choose what they want to learn and help them to learn and perfect it. I started teaching private guitar and bass lessons in my early twenties. As an instructor, I understand first-hand how important it is to have patience while learning because it doesn't happen overnight. However, with time, practice and consistency you'll keep the momentum going all the while achieving noticeable improvement. I get extreme satisfaction of bringing along novice guitar and bass players, as it reminds me of when I first started. Read More

I see teaching that each student will be different and learn at different rates. Having work with all levels of students, I understand that and recognize that I want to tailor my lessons to the students needs so they can be most successful. This could mean that a learner could be more visual or more auditory etc. I would want to set realistic expectations for the students and keep motivating them to do the best they can. Read More

The most rewarding part of being a teacher is to see your students grow and love their musicianship. Music is a language that is more universal than any other language in the world! Passing on the knowledge and works of composers and artists from yesterday to today. I set realistic goals for my students that are achievable and rewarding. I tend to look on the positive side of each performance and I teach through kindness humor and respect. Read More

Hi! I am passionate about music instruction and inspiring students to find passions within themselves. I led the musical theater program at Trinity Catholic Middle School for two years, have sung and acted plays at Curtain Call, and even helped produce the Boston Pops Fireworks spectacular last year. I studied Music Business at NYU and am in two bands that have played throughout the New York City area. I am passionate about various styles of playing from folk to rock to blues to you name it! I typically start by teaching them the parts of the guitar how to hold a guitar and all the physical fundamentals including fretting notes properly etc... then I ask them what their goals are as a player if they’re interested in learning a lot of theory or just want to sing and play with their friends etc.… Then I teach them the names of the strings and tell them to memorize them as well as the dot markers on the fretboard and then I have them learn some strumming patterns and a few simple chords to get them started and then begin learning the names of the notes from open position to 12th and then learning The major scale up the neck one string at a time… And I also incorporate the use of a Metronome which I find is hugely important… Then we incorporate a simple song that they can play with four chords from there onto learning how to harmonize the major scale and then incorporate more theory… All the while assessing their needs and fixing any trouble spots they’re having… Then on to scales and more theory and More Metronome work...And every couple of lessons I teach them a new song of their choosing to make sure that they’re having fun fun fun Read More

Since I was 10 I had the experience of teaching or coaching children younger than I, and asked to explain what I was learning to adults other than my teachers, thus found ways of articulating musical concepts into words and/or being able to demonstrate concepts. My students have ranged in age from 4 to 56 years of age, and I have learned how to work with each age's particular needs. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
