I have experience participating in, working with, and conducting college level choirs and I am still gaining experience. I have also passed Piano Proficiency in my undergrad education. This proficiency test covers major and minor scales in all twelve keys in two octaves with proper fingering, playing a piece from memory, sight reading open score (a four-part choral work), and I have had to harmonize a melody using the three basic I, IV, V7 chords in a major key and i, iv, V7 chords in a minor key. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

My teaching style is to keep things fun and stress free. I really like to listen to what the student wants to get out of the lessons. Some might be more interested in theory and technique while other's goals might be more interested in learning songs to get out and play. I also like to introduce students to new things that can help in advancing their skills and knowledge. Each student is an individual and advances at their own pace. Read More

I use the "CAGED" system on guitar as a way to navigate the fretboard and understand the patterns on Guitar. I always put a strong emphasis on being able to learn a song by ear and understand the theory behind it. For younger children I use the Hal Leonard Method book to give them the ability to read Music. I teach all styles and advanced lessons including Ear training, Theory, Chord Building, Modes, Scales, and Technique. Read More

I first find out a little bit about my students musical likes and taste, or, with younger students, find somethingfun that interests them, just to find some common ground. I also find out a students long term goals. For instance, if a student seeks to be a opera singer as opposed to a worship leader, the training needs to be more pointed towards classical pieces and Arias instead of learning church music and how to engage a crowd. I realize that each student is different, so I treat them as individuals. However, I do stress regular daily practice, even for short time periods. Regularity in practice is more important than long practice periods in my experience. I try to apply the three T's in my own playing and gradually incorporate these into my teaching, TASTE, TONE and TECHNIQUE. I enjoy seeing students progress because it reassures me that I understand the subject well, You have to know a subject 3 times as well if you teach it because a student will always ask a question you never thought of.
