I like to teach to the interests and ability levels of my students. I believe in keeping lessons light and fun, while maintaining a strong emphasis on guiding my students toward becoming musically literate. A typical lesson for a younger student may include board games and coloring pages in addition to traditional "on instrument" time. I also strive to integrate technology in to my lessons, whether by using iOS apps as teaching supplements, or by monitoring home practice through a "flipped" classroom approach. Read More

My vocal methods are rooted in bel canto style with a strong Melocchi technique using standard repertoire from art songs to stage to develop any voice in preparation for various styles of song. My goal is to help my students go from a singer to a vocalist so that they understand their instrument to be able to create any music as needed. As a piano method I draw from the FABER & FABER method books in addition to online repertoire resources from the standard piano literature varying in styles and difficulties from classical to the four chord structures used in many of today's popular songs and arrangements. Typically I break my lessons into two parts; half dedicated to learning songs, and the other half dedicated to learning chords. For songs I'll start out with very basic melody songs (beginners), eventually working in power chords and tackling classic rock favorites, and finally incorporating chords/barre chords/soloing. If the student is interested in playing a particular style of music my goal is to eventually focus on that style in our lessons. Read More
