Instruments: Bass Guitar Electric Guitar

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
In my opinion it is finding your individual tone and comfortable techniques. Playing the bass guitar can be very painful! Especially in the beginning stages. Also knowing when to play and when not to play. I also believe that it’s hard to master the fact that the bass guitar may not be the highlight of the band. It may be a non glorified position and a bass player has to be comfortable with that. Like I pointed out earlier the bass guitar is the foundation of the sound. It may be very repetitive in what one plays and it’s hard to master the groove

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
No not that I know of personally but I do know that I’ve inspired many children and grownups to find the music inside of them. I’ve inspired many to purchase an instrument and join a band no matter how good or bad they may be at playing it. I’ve inspired elderly people to get up and dance at private functions at assisted living facilities and nursing homes! I’ve inspired the youth to never give up the dream of being a musician no matter how long it takes. I’m a firm believer that there is no time line to success

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I chose the bass guitar because it is the glue between the melody and the rhythm in contemporary modern music. It’s a very important element in most bands. The bass guitar is still a new instrument that was invented. I love the deep rumble of a bass guitar and also the cutting tone of its mid and high range. The bass guitar can also be a solo instrument. There are many techniques to getting a great sound from a bass guitar. There are bass guitars that have over 10 strings and some with only one!

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I proud that I am credited as a professional musician on big time record labels with artists and producers on Interscope. As a child I would read the CD inserts to see who was playing the guitars, drums, bass, and all other instruments. Music was so good to listen to and I would always say that I wanted my name to be inside a professional CD one day and it happened more than once! I’m also proud to be s professional composer for films and documentaries. I’m also elated that I have been able to do professional theatre work as a musician!
