I teach out of a number of method books including Mel Bay, Alfred Guitar Method, Ernie Ball Guitar Method, and The Guitar Grimiore Book for the more advanced students. I also have a method of learning 5 songs in a month. I studied music at Lake Sumter Community College. There I studied music theory, music appreciation, music history, jazz, music composition, music scoring, and music arranging.I have done guitar lessons and guitar clinics for JB Player Guitars, and Cool Pick Guitar Picks. That's the most important thing that I try to stick to in my teaching style, letting the student do the work and figure things out for themselves. For example, bringing a song to a lesson and wanting to learn it, but instead of just figuring it out and writing it on paper for them, I let the student work on it, and maybe give them little nudges in the right direction here and there. My philosophy lies in structure - such as teaching in appropriate amounts that are challenging, but not overwhelming. I will always ask students what they're interested in learning and work that into the lesson. But the main focus for beginners is to be comfortable with the fretboard and to have fun. I break lessons down into technique, theory, and whatever the student is particularly wanting to learn. I particularly like to pull from the Berklee Press or Musician's Institute books, as they are well received. Read More

I use the Suzuki method for strings. I was classically trained in this method. I find that this method is an excellent way for beginners to gain basic technique and learn at their own pace. It is also great for intermediate students as the transition into this method does not take long once I have evaluated the student's skill level. The most important part of what I teach is to HAVE FUN! Read More

I try to create a relaxed, fun, trustworthy and focused, environment for the student. I like to ask them what’s interesting and appealing to them, then we start the lesson. When I teach at my studio and children come directly from school I give them a snack if they haven’t had any. Children cannot concentrate if they are hungry. We play musical games for the younger ones, so they can internalize either the beats or the values of the notation. Read More

For beginning students, I use materials such as Beginners Method books, Hal Leonard books, Jody Fischer books, and popular songbooks. I'm make sure to include ways to properly develop your ability to utilize music theory training from an early stage. Throughout lessons and into the skill level of moderate to intermediate, I'll use sound clips as examples to fully ensure that you as the student are grasping the concepts and can hear how to improve and approach creating musical notes using the tools that exist. My teaching style very catered to the experience of the person learning the instrument. I think it's very important that the lessons move at the pace of which the student appears to be learning. The style of music the student wants to learn is rarely steered away from, I feel that too many teachers force students to learn songs outside their preferred genre just because the song is well known.
