I use a few different method books including Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer, Modern Rudimental Swing Solos, Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials among others. I also believe that all musicians, especially drummers should have a strong rhythmic foundation so I incorporate sight-reading, call and response, and ear training to build the young musicians' instincts. It is my firm belief that it is the job of the teacher to be both adequately well versed and acutely attentive to each individual students' strengths, flaws, and the overall nuances of their playing style to be able to recommend appropriate literature, exercises, and music that is best suited for the student. Later I began giving lessons through some members fo the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra to which I have played and excelled through all of the group's sinfonia, Philharmonia, and Symphony.
