Most of all the rescources I use for my students can be found for free online. The most important things for any classical guitarist are: Mauro Giuliani’s right hand arpeggio studies, Matteo Carcassi’s Etudes, Fernando Sor’s etudes among exercises I’ve learned and created personally. Other great rescources are Scott Tennant’s Book “Pumping Nylon” and Pepe Romero’s book “La Guitarra”, which are about $20 a book. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Keyboard
Though I have been teaching for over two decade years, I am far from feeling like a burn-out. In fact, the more I teach, the more intrigued I become with the learning process, and I am constantly re-tooling my approach in order to help my students learn more effectively. I LOVE teaching, and I have chosen to teach privately because I enjoy the one-to-one interactions with my students. I can actually get to know each of my students, and I use my knowledge of each new student's goals, temperament, age and learning style to tailor each lesson. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Recorder
My approach largely imitates the ones employed on me when I was first learning, and carries all the way through my college years of private instruction. I use a medley of great music books that I find to be crucial staples of learning foundations, as well as mu own musicology textbook that I've been writing and adapting for years. Students will be expected to practice and learn scales, arpeggios, and other basic music theory. Read More
Instruments: Drums Mallet Percussion Latin Percussion Djembe
I always start beginning students with proper technique. I believe that great technique is the foundation of a great musician. I use a few different method books including Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer, Modern Rudimental Swing Solos, Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials among others. I also believe that all musicians, especially drummers should have a strong rhythmic foundation so I incorporate sight-reading, call and response, and ear training to build the young musicians' instincts. Instruments: Flute Music
I believe each student is different and enjoy developing a unique approach for each students. I also tailor the lessons to each students need. I have taught beginners from scratch, students who need help in band, and also students who are preparing for college auditions. Since I have studied the flute myself for over 20 years, and am currently the teaching assistant at LSU flute studio, I have a vast amount of experience and knowledge in flute pedagogy. Read More
Instruments: Cello
At the bare minimum, there are four skills that one must become adept in in order to play cello. 1) Proper body movement and coordination 2) Left hand technique (the hand which determines the notes on the instrument) 3) Right hand technique (the hand which manipulates the bow and produces sound) 4) A basic grasp of music theory Every student of mine will be trained in the classical sense, and learn some classical repertoire, because classical technique on the cello is the foundation for any other style the student would like to perform. Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
I have over 20 years of teaching experience. The age range has varied from 8 to 88! I teach beginning, intermediate and advanced students in intense private lessons, using traditional and non-traditional methods. The focus can be Jazz, Classical, Brazilian Choro, Klezmer and other World musics. I love to figure out how someone learns, how he responds to music, what methods are the most appropriate. It is a beautiful experience for me as well as for the student to connect to your inner voice, and to be able to express it and love it! Read More
