It's important to me that students enjoy what they are singing--if they don't, they won't be motivated, are less likely to practice, and they won't progress as quickly. Still, I believe students should sing a variety of literature (and may even find something they didn't know they enjoyed), and regularly start beginning students with some simple Italian art songs. Students in my studio are exposed to art songs, folk songs, opera arias, and showtunes. Read More
Instruments: Violin
I'm a violin teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching all age groups. I've taught private lessons and orchestra classes at the public and private level. I'm known for my ability to teach vibrato, bow hold, position, tone production and scales. I've worked with beginners up to advanced students. Are you preparing for an audition? I can assist you with auditions for high school and college levels. I look forward to meeting you. Read More

Music has been a passion of mine from age 6. I got my start playing the piano with friends trying to figure out the music from Super Mario 64. Not a day has gone by since then that I haven't picked up an instrument of some kind. It's been a goal of mine to learn as many instruments as possible throughout my life and focus on the instruments I love. I've been able to learn the piano, organ, all kinds of guitars, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, percussion instruments, and vocals. Read More

I approach piano and violin instruction from a foundational, constructive perspective, combined with building rapport and reciprocal clarifying communications. Essentially this means that the student and I interact to build understanding by using the familiar to grasp the unfamiliar. An example is: When teaching hand position, I use the natural position the student already has when the hand is relaxed to build the hand playing position. The student is encouraged to ask questions, to feel free to make mistakes in order to take the risks necessary for true understanding and growth, and to engage in productive discussion leading to personal clarity with regard to their playing. Instruments: Flute
I usually start out using the Rubank Method, but I frequently incorporate some Suzuki and other ear training methods as well. I also like to use Trevor Wyes books for more advanced students. I like to expose all students to a classical repertoire of performance pieces, using basics for beginners and progressing in difficulty as the student gains more control of the instrument. I use a variety of books with etudes, or studies, to give students a strong background in technique while also teaching various musical concepts such as theory and improvisation. Read More
Instruments: Piano
For young beginners, I generally teach from the Nancy and Randall Faber Piano Adventure series, however I have recently been working to become more familiar with other options in order to best accomodate individual students. I am now also familiar with Alfred's Piano Method books, as well as the Hal Leonard series for young students. I have also taught by books from the same composers for an older beginner. I am a great fan of recitals, and as I build my studio I will collaborate with fellow piano teachers in the area to hold them. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
My beginner students use the Essential Elements book. With that book, you can learn fundamentals in trumpet technique as well as counting. For all other students, I use the Herbert L. Clarke Technical Studies book and selections from the Arban's Conservatory Method. We cover a lot of etudes and techniques from the Arban's book. I also believe collaboration is important in lessons so often we will play duets together in lessons. Read More
