For all students, I begin with classical fundamentals such as body alignment, breath support, and resonance and moving to topics including diction, vocal health, interpretation, and stage presence. I will work with the student to find repertoire that will best fit their voice, help achieve their musical goals, and be aligned with what they enjoy musically. My program is one that I have developed over the last 18 years. I use no method books. I ask my students to bring a blank manuscript book that I will fill up as we go forward. I also highly encourage all of my students to have a keyboard of some kind available to them, IE: a piano, organ, or even one of those battery-powered little CASIO keyboards that one can buy for $15-25 at a Salvation Army or Goodwill store. As for my experience, I have been playing guitar for 15 years, teaching for 5 years, and active in bands for 7 years. I was privileged to receive private guitar lessons myself for a decade. Also, I have a solid amount of experience with audio recording, mixing, and microphone techniques for amplifying instruments.
