 I have taught in a variety of musical settings with a wide range of students and abilities. I have taught independently as well as for organizations such as the Youth Orchestra of Central NJ. In 2012 I worked for Camp Encore Coda where I taught trumpet lessons, directed the Symphonic Band, coached jazz combos, and taught music theory/musicianship class.  My experience working as full time music faculty for Camp Encore Coda sparked my graduate research on overnight summer music camp, which has since been presented at three major professional conferences in the music education field at the state, national, and international level.  Read More

Classes for Young Students Young students are taught fundamentals of theory and music reading. Children experience the basics of music through rhythm, form, and melody with piano. These classes provide an excellent foundation for learning piano. A fun, written theory workbook will be introduced. For beginners who are children, I generally start with the John Thompson course which I still believe to be the best. Alternatively I use the Bastien method which I like because it teaches the students chords and music theory and contains catchy tunes, some of which the students already know. Later, I use the Music for Millions Series Books 1 and 2 which contains many excellent beginner and intermediate pieces that students enjoy playing and which can be challenging at times. Read More

I started at the age of 9 on the accordion. I performed various concerts while continuing to sharpen my skills as a piano player. I have over 40 years of experience performing and teaching. What separates the best piano players from the rest of us is that they persevere through these challenges. Having the personal fortitude and work ethic to look at any difficult passage, and practice it until its perfect, is an attribute that you can learn, but will need to be cognizant of every day. I encourage regular, consistent practice of all my students, because I want to see them achieve their goals. As much as I enjoy teaching Classical music for technique, I love working on pieces my student's want to learn - whatever the genre! Vocal lessons are a bit different, as everyone has sung to some degree, even it's just to themselves! For beginning vocal students, I start by simply teaching a student how to warm up; from there, we work together to determine what a student's natural strengths and weaknesses are and select repertoire that the student is personally interested in that is also appropriate to their level of proficiency.
