Ive always emphasized listening to as many styles of music as possible. The more youre comfortable with as a listener, the easier it usually is to learn. Designing practice programs that cater to the learning styles for each student is something I take pride in and find to be most effective and efficient way to improve. I will get my students prepared for any situation they want to take part in, whither it be auditions, recitals, casual gigs, recording sessions, and more. I always start out just seeing where each student is at in their music career, no matter the age. Every student is different and might need a different approach. I personally am big on fundamental skills, such as embouchure, hand position, tongue position, and articulation as these are all important foundations to build both skill and fun off of.
